[:en]Thoughts from Joshua 23[:]

[:en]Joshua gave a farewell address to his leaders:

  1. “Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left.” (v. 6)
  2. “Do not associate with these nations that remain among you; do not invoke the names of their gods or swear by them.  You must serve them or bow down to them” (v. 7)
  3. “Hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have until now” (v. 8)
  4. “Be very careful to love the Lord your God” (v. 11)
  5. “If you ally yourselves or intermarry with the survivors of these nations, the Lord will not drive them out.  Instead, they will become snares and traps for you, whips on your backs and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land” (vs. 12-13)
  6. “Just as every good promise of the Lord has come true, so that Lord will bring on you all the evil he has threatened, until you are destroyed” (v. 15)
  7. “If you violate the covenant of the Lord and serve other gods, the Lord’s anger will burn against you and you will perish from the good land he has given you” (v. 16)
