[:en]The Israelites acted unfaithfully in regard to the devoted things.  Achan’s eyes wandered and took some of the spoils.  As a result of his sin, the whole nation was defeated by the Amorites.  Since sin had to be purged, the whole family of Achan were stoned to death and burned.  That place has been called the Valley of Achor.[:]
