[:en]When Nahash, the king of Ammonites died, his son Hanun succeeded him David sent his men to the land of Ammonites to express sympathy. Instead of showing appreciation, Hanun’s men were suspicious about David’s motive. They thought they came to spy their land. So they seized David’s men, shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their garments in the middle of the buttocks and sent them away (v. 4). Humiliated and angered, David sent troops to fight against the Ammonites. The Ammonites hired soldiers from Arameans to fight against David’s army. They were all defeated and became subject to Israel.[:]
