[:en]Scripture Reading:  John 18:15-27

Biblical Truth:  Anna’s family of high priest monopolized the temple business.  They charged exorbitant rates in their money changing business.  They sold high priced animals pre-certified them as “fit” for sacrifices.  When Jesus entered the temple and drove them out, they lost their lucrative temple business.  So they tried to find ways to have Jesus arrested.

Jesus was arrested in the middle of the night.  The disciples deserted Him and fled.  He was arraigned before being indicted.  It was Annas who sent Peter still bond, to Caiaphas, the high priest. (John 18:24)

Peter disowned Jesus three times and it was recorded in all 4 gospels.

  1.  When he entered the courtyard (Mat. 26:69, Mark 14:66-68, Luke 22:56-57. John 18:15-17)
  2. When he went out to the gateway warming himself (Mat. 26:71, Mark 14:69-70, Luke 22:58, John 18:25)
  3. When he wanted to escape the ire of Malchu’s relatives (Mat. 26:73-74, Mark 14:73-74, Luke 22:59-60, John 18:26-27)

Personal Application:  When Peter realized that he had denied Jesus 3 times, he went outside, broke down and wept bitterly (Mat. 216:75, Mark 14:72. :Luke 22:62).  We may have also denied Jesus many times.  But most important of all is for us to repent and ask forgiveness from God.

Prayer:  Lord, give us the courage to stand firm in our faith.
