[:en]When there was a famine in the land of Israel, Elimeleh and his wife Naomi left Judah to live in the enemy country of Moab. During their stay, their sons married Moabite women. But the sons and father died.
Naomi urged here daughters-in-law to go back to their mother’s home. But Ruth refused and decided to go with Naomi in Bethlehem. She said: Don’t urge me to leave you to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God” (v. 16)
Naomi’s name means “pleasant” but she told the people to call him “Mara” meaning “bitter” because she got bitter and blamed God for her plight.
*When we sin and get out of the will of God, do not blame God. Be ready to accept the painful consequences*[:]
