[:en]Obadiah was in charged of Ahab’s palace. He was a devout believer who had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in 2 caves, 50 in each and had supplied them with food and water. (v. 4) One day, king Ahab told him to go through the land to find some grass for the horses and mules. While walking, Obadiah met Elijah and Elijah asked to present himself to King Ahab. So Ahab and Elijah met. They agreed to summon all the Israelites together with all the prophets of Baal at Mount Carmel. Elijah wanted to prove to the people who is really the true GOD. He made this challenge:
Both the prophet of Baal and Elijah will prepare a bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. Then they will call their god and the god who answers by fire – he is God.. (vs. 23-24) The Baal prophets and followers shouted, danced around the altar from morning till evening but there was no response.
Then Elijah poured water into the wood 3 times and stepped forward to pray. Then the fire of the Lord filled and burned up the sacrifice. All people saw and fell prostrate and cried: “The Lord – He is God! The Lord – He is God! (v. 39) Then a heavy rain came.
