[:en]Thoughts from 2 Kings 17[:]

[:en]Hoshea, son of Elah became the last king of Israel.  He reigned for 9 years and did evil in the eyes of the Lord.  Hoshea had been vassal to the king of Assyria Shalmaneser and paid him tribute.  When the king of Assyria found out that Hoshea had sent envoys to the king of Egypt and he longer paid tribute to him, the king of Syria seized Hoshea and put him in prison.  He captured Samaria and deported the people of Israel to Assyria.

Israel exiled Because of Sin:

  1. They forgot God’s mercy in bringing them out from Egypt (v. 7)
  2. They followed the practices of the ungodly (v. 8)
  3. The did not listen to the preaching of the prophets (v.s 13, 18)
  4. They worship the Lord but they were serving their idols (v. 33, 41)
