[:en]Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers put a crown of thorn in his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and said: “Hail King of the Jews” and struck him in the face (vs. 1-3). Pilate tried to set Jesus free but the Jews kept shouting: “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar” (v. 12). So Pilate brought Jesus out and the people shouted: “Crucify Him”. Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.
Jesus was crucified with two others, one on each side, and he in the middle. Near the cross stood his mother, his mother’s sister Mary and Mary Magdalene. Jesus entrusted his mother to his beloved disciple John. Then he said his last words: “It is finished” and gave up his spirit. The soldiers took his clothes, dividing them into 4 shares and cast lots for the undergarment. Jesus of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes and the two of them wrapped Jesus’ body with the spices in strips of linens and laid Jesus in a new tomb of a garden.[:]
