[:en]Thoughts from “Our Daily Bread” (7/20/17)[:]

[:en]C.S.  Lewis had served in World War 1.  He described the hardships a soldier had to undergo.  It was like a sickness threatened with pain and death.  It was like poverty threatened with ill lodging, cold, heat, thirst and hunger.  It was like slavery threatened with labor, humiliation, injustice and arbitrary rule.  It was like an exile that separated you from all you love.

Apostle Paul also used the analogy of a soldier suffering hardships to describe the trials a believer may experience in service to Christ.  He encouraged Timothy to “Join with me in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 2:3)

We may encounter obstacles of poor heath, troubled relationships or difficult circumstances while serving the Lord.  But with God’s strength, we press on to serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords who had sacrificed Himself for us.[:]
