[:en]Thoughts from Psalm 2[:]

[:en]This Psalm is called a royal Psalm about Israel’s king.  A king was spoken of as the “Lord’s Anointed One” (1 Sam. 24:6).  It speaks powerfully of the foolishness of opposing God and “God’s Anointed One”.  Powerful men may oppose God’s purpose but they will only be laughed at (v. 4).

The prophets gave the people the hope that one day, a true Son of God would come and rule in righteousness and bring salvation and peace to Israel and the world.  In a way, Israel could be called “God’s Son” (Hosea 11:1) and each king of Israel could be called God’s Son (2 Sam. 7:14).  But the deepest meaning of verse 7 “You are my Son” refers to Jesus and applied to Jesus in the New Testament.  In verse 10, it says, there is only one way to be wise.  And that is to realize that God, who has the perfect wisdom , he is king over all nations.

We are not to oppose Him or work against His purposes.  We must be humble in serving Him with respect and joy (v. 11).  Then we can take refuge in Him and have peace in our hearts. (v. 12)[:]
