- Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong (v. 1)
- Trust in the Lord and do good (v. 3)
- Delight yourself in the Lord (v. 4)
- Commit your way to the Lord, trust in him (v. 5)
- Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him (v. 7)
- Refrain from anger and turn from wrath (v. 8)
- Turn from evil and do good (v. 27)
- Wait for the Lord and keep his way (v. 34)
The central theme of this long Psalm is the contrast between the wicked and the righteous.
What will happen to the wicked?
- They are like the grass that withers and like green plants that soon die away (v. 2)
- They will be cut off (v. 9)
- They will be no more and will not be found (v. 10)
- Their swords will pierce their own hearts and their bows will be broken (v. 15)
- Their power will be broken (v. 17)
- They will perish and vanish like smoke (v. 20)
- They will be cursed by the Lord and be cut off (v. 22)
- They will soon passed away and could not be found (v. 36)
- They will be destroyed and cut off (v. 38)
What will happen to the righteous?
- He will give him the desires of his heart (v. 4)
- He will make his righteousness shine like the dawn and the justice of his cause like the noonday sun (v. 6)
- Those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land (v. 9)
- The meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace (v. 11)
- The righteous will be uphold (v. 17)
- The inheritance of the blameless will endure forever (v. 18)
- They will be blessed (v. 22)
- His steps are firm and though he stumble, he will not fail for the Lord upholds him with his hand )v. 23-24)
- Their children will be blessed (v. 26)
- The faithful ones will not be forsaken and they will be protected forever (v. 28)
- His feet do not slip (v. 31)
- They will not be condemned when brought to trial (v. 33)
- There is a future for the m,an of peace (v. 37)
- The Lord will save them and they will be delivered from the wicked (v. 40)
“The salvation of the righteous comes from, the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble” (v. 39)
