[:en]This is a Sinner’s Prayer. David realized his sins and the suffering it had caused him. It describes the consequences of sin.
- Guilt feeling (v. 4)
- Physical suffering – no health in his bones (v. 3) with festering wounds (v. 5) and body full of pain (vs. 6, 17). These may suggest that he was suffering from a sexually transmitted disease.
- Abandonment and depression – Friends and neighbors kept away from him (v. 11). Enemies talked of his ruin and plotted deception against him (v. 12). Those whom he had done good to them slandered him (v. 20)
Finally, he turned to God and asked for forgiveness (v. 18). He opened up his agony to the Lord (v. 9) with the confidence that God would answer his prayer (v. 15) He described himself as helpless (vs. 13-14) waiting for God’s healing by praying: “O Lord, do not forsake me, be not far for me, O my God. Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior” (vs. 21-22)
