[:en]Thoughts from Psalm 58[:]

[:en]David wrote this Psalm to denounce the unjust rulers of his day.  He prayed for God’s judgment because as God’s chosen king, he was concern with the righteousness of God and the good of His people.  He had the authority to denounce national enemies which were also God’s enemies.  He declared a holy anger against sin of injustice, violence and lies.  This was what he prayed:

  1. Break the teeth in their mouths (v. 6)
  2. Let them vanish like water that flows away (v. 7a)
  3. Blunt their arrows (v. 7b)
  4. Let them be like stillborn child that can not see the sun (v. 8)
  5. Swept them away (v. 9)

In the end, David concluded with his praise to God because God will judge the wicked and reward the righteous.  (vs. 10-11)

There is no real justice in this world.  It seems that the righteous are being persecuted while the wicked are being promoted.  When you are faced with inequality, leave your burden with the Lord.  He says:  “Vengeance is mine.  I will repay” (Rom 12:19)  “Surely, the righteous will be reward.  Surely there is a God who judge the earth” (v. 11)[:]
