[:en]The leaders of Israel were corrupt. They issued oppressive decrees, deprived the rights of the poor, withheld justice for the oppressed, rob the widows and fatherless (vs. 1-2). When the day of punishment came, nothing will remain. (v. 4)
When God used Assyria as his instrument to punish Israel (v. 6), Assyria became proud and boasted of all its conquests. So God humbled them and judge them when Nineveh was conquered by Babylon in 612 MC.
In His grace, God reserved a remnant of Israel, who relied on the Lord and were able to return to their land (v. 20)[:]
