[:en]Thoughts from 1 Thessalonians 1[:]

[:en]Introduction:

Paul founded the church at Thessalonica in his second missionary journey.  He taught them for about 3 weeks but had to leave because of strong opposition.  He sent Timothy to oversee the church.  Upon receiving report from Timothy about the conditions in Thessalonica, Paul wrote this letter from Corinth to encourage the believers in Thessalonica to be steadfast in the midst of persecution.  He gave instruction on Christian walk and taught them about the second coming of Christ.

1 Thessalonians 1

A model church for us to imitate:

  1. Work produced by faith (v. 3a)
  2. Labor prompted by love (v. 3b)
  3. Endurance inspired by hope (v. 3c)
  4. Turn to God from idols (v. 9a)
  5. Serve the living and true God (v. 9b)

Because the Thessalonian believers had good testimony, it was easy for Paul to preach the gospel.

How about you?  As a christian, are you a good example to the unbelievers?  Is your life a good testimony to the world?
