[:en]Jeremiah was the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin. The Lord called him saying: “Before I formed you in the worm, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations (v. 5). Jeremiah answered: “I do not know how to speak. I am only a child” (v. 6) The Lord said to him: “Do not say that you are only a child. You must go to everywhere I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you” (v. 7) Then the Lord reached out His hand and touched his mouth saying: “I have put my words in your mouth. I appoint you one over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant” (v. 10) Then the Lord let him see an almond tree and a boiling pot (vs. 11-13) He told him that disasters will come to the people of the southern kingdom. He told Jeremiah not to be afraid to stand up and say to them whatever He commanded him, for God will be with him and will rescue him. (vs. 14-19)
Do not be afraid to say what God has told you to say, for He will be with you.[:]
