[:en]After the tribes of Israel had received their allotment, the Lord told Joshua to designate the cities of refuge so that anyone who kills a person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there and find protection from the avenger of blood.
The Lord had been a sanctuary (safe haven) for the ancient Israel when they were in exile. Those who walk with God can also find true shelter and the safest protection in Him. For “the name of the Lord is a fortified tower, the righteous run to it and are safe” (Prov. 18:10) May we confidently say that the Lord is our hiding place. He will protect us from trouble and surround us with songs of deliverance (Ps. 32:7)[:]
