[:en]In 1878, Scotsman Alexander Mackay arrived in Uganda to serve as a missionary. When he arrived, he first set up a blacksmith forged among a tribe ruled by King Mutesa. Villagers were surprised to see this foreign stranger working with his hand forging farming tools as men in Uganda never worked with their hands. They raided other villages to capture slaves, selling them to outsiders. Mackay’s work ethic and life resulted in relationships with the villagers and King Mutesa. He was able to convince the King to end the slave trade.
God gives each of us different talents. Let us honor and serve God with our talents and labor to make our contributions to the kingdom unique and meaningful. “Wherever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human master” (Co. 3:23)[:]
