[:en]Biddy Mason was a woman born into slavery. After winning her freedom in court battle in 1856, she was able to make a small fortune from business. As a generous person, she reached out to the immigrants and prisoners and did charity works. In 1872, she and her son-in-law financed the founding of the First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles.
According to Biddy Mason, the open hand is blessed for it gives in abundance even as it receives. Jesus Christ also said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35)
May we follow the example of Biddy by reaching out to people who need our help.
