When Festus went to Jerusalem, the chief priest and Jewish rulers requested to Have Paul transferred to Jerusalem because they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way. But Festus told them to come with him and press charges against Paul. Upon reaching Caesaria, he immediately ordered Paull’s trialto resume. He asked Paul if he was willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial there Paul appealed to Caesar instead.
Festus Consults King Agrippa (vs. 13-22)
This is “Agrippa II” who was the son of Herod Agrippa 1 and a descendant of Herod the Great. He had power over the temple, the controller of the temple treasury and he could appoint and name the high priest. Bernice, the mistress of Agrippa II later became mistress to emperor Vespasia’s son, Titus. They were making an official visit to Festus. Festus discussed Paul’s case with the king and the king requested to hear from Paul.
Paul Before Agrippa (vs. 23-27)
The next day, Agrippa and Bernice entered the audience room with the high ranking officers and the leading men of the city. AT the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.
