[:en]Thoughts from “Our Daily Bread” (8/25/18)[:]

[:en]As a person grows old, there is a tendency for loss of short-term memory.  People are afraid to have dementia.  But Dr. Benjamin Mas, an expert of the topic of Alzheimer’s disease says that patients’ brains are often so “well worn” and “habitual” that they can hear an old hymn and sing along to every word.  He suggests to have spiritual discipline of reading Scripture, praying and singing hymns because truth will be “embedded” in our brains and ready to be accessed when prompted.

God’s word in our heart can keep us from sinning. (Ps. 119:1).  It can strengthen us, teach us obedience and direct our footsteps (Ps. 119:28, 67, 133).    This will give us hope and understanding (Ps. 119:49, 130).  Even if our memory slips, God’s Word, memorized years earlier, is still “stored up and “treasured” in our hearts.  It will continue to speak to us.  Nothing – not even failing memories – can separate us from His love and care.  God’s word and promises never fail.
