[:en]The Ramnants of Israel (vs. 1-10)
Not all Jews rejected God’s message of salvation. There are still Jews who are faithful followers of Christ such as Paul, Jesus’s disciples and all early Christian missionaries.
God chose the Jews to be the people through whom the rest of the world could find salvation. But it did not mean that the entire Jewish nation would be saved. Only those who received Christ in faith were considered true Jews.
Salvation is by grace, a free gift which cannot be earned. It can only be accepted with thanks and praise. God removed those who are stubborn the ability to see and hear and turn from sin. They will reap the consequences of their rebellion.
Ingrafted Branches (vs. 11-24)
Paul had a vision of an ideal church where all Jews and Gentiles would be united in their love of God and obedience to Christ. Unfortunately, his vision has not been fulfilled until this day. Paul was appointed as an apostle to the Gentiles. But he reminded his Jewish brothers and sister of this fact hoping that they too would be saved. He also spoke to the Gentile Christians not to feel surprised because God would reject some Jews. The Jewish people are descendants of Abraham whose faith is like a productive tree. They are the tree’s natural branches. But due to faithlessness, some of the Jews have been broken off and Gentile believers who are branches from a wild olive tree have been grafted in. Both Jews and Gentiles share the tree’s nourishment based on faith in God. Neither can rest one’s heritage or culture for salvation. Paul urged them to “continue in His kindness” (v. 22), that is to persevere in faith.
All Israel Will Be Saved (vs. 25-35)
There are many interpretation about “all Israel”. Some say “all Israel” refers to the majority of Jews in the final generation will turn to Cheist for salvation “spiritual” nation of Israel which comprises both Jews and Gentiles who have received salvation through faith in Christ. Still others say that “all Israel” means Israel as a whole will have a role in Christ’s kingdom. God chose the nation of Israel and its identity, a people who wil not be discarded. But it does not mean that all Jews and all church members will be saved. However, God is still working with Israel and the church to offer true salvation to all.
The privilege and invitation of God given to Israel are irreversible. He still maintains His love for the Jews because of His promises to Abrahm, Isaac and Jacob. He will have mercy on everyone and they will experience rich blessings.
Doxology (vs. 33-36)
This is a prayer of praise to God for His wisdom and judgment. No one can comprehend the mind of God. No one can be His counselor. He is the source of all things with absolute power that sustains and rules the world. May all glory be to Him forever, Amen.[:]
