[:en]LOVE YOU ENEMY

Kim ChinKyung joined the South Korean army to defend his homeland in 1950.  When he saw his friend died around him, he begged God to spare his life and promised that, if allowed to live, he would learn to love his enemies.

Sixty-five years later, Dr. Kim cared for orphans and assisted in the education of South Korean and Chinese young people.  He won many firends who were his enemies before.  He called himself a loveist as an expression of his faith in Jesus.

When God called Jonah to preach to the people of Nineveh, he ran away and headed to Tarshish.  Even a dramatic rescue from the belly of a big fish did not transform his heart against his enemies.  After he finally obeyed God, he was greatly displeased and became angry at the Lord’s compassion.  He prayed to the Lord to take away his life because he would rather die than watch the Lord show mercy to his enemies. (Jonah 4:1-2, 8)

How about us?  Will we settle for unforgiving attitude toward those we fear and hate?  Or will we ask God for the ability to love our enemies as He has shown mercy to us? – (Mart Dehaan)[:]
