[:en]THE DAY OF THE LORD (vs. 1-18)

Scoffers say that Jesus will never come back “in the last days”.  But Peter refuted their argument saying “The last days’ is the time between Christ first and second coming so that we are now living the the last days.  We must do what God has called us to do.

In Noah’s day, the earth was judged by water.  In the Second Coming, it will be judged by fire, which is stated in Revelations 19-20.

People are thinking that the Lord is slow in keeping His promise.  But God is not slow.  He is patienttly waiting so that more sinners will repent and turn to Him.  The Lord has His timetable:  “For with the Lord, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day” (v. 8).  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.  The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare (v. 10).

Therefore, we ought to live holy and godly lives as we are looking forward a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness (vs. 12-13)  As we wait eagerly for His Second Coming, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him.

In closing, Peter reminded his readers to be on guard and not be carried away by the errors of lawless men and fall from the secure position.  He urged them to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord and Saviuor Jesus Christ.  We need to draw closer to Christ so that we will be prepared to stand for truth in any circumstances.[:]
