[:en]Paul wrote the second letter to Timothy on how to lead a church and warned him to stay away from false teachers.
ENCOURAGEMENT TO BE FAITHFUL (vs. 3-18)
Timothy’s mother Eunice and grandmother Lois were early Christian converts in their home city of Lystra. (Acts 16:41) They had communicated their strong Christian faith to Timothy even though his father was not a believer. Paul reminded Timothy to persevere in faith and proclaim the Good News with the power of the Holy Spirit. “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. Although Paul was suffering yet he said: “I am not ashamed because I know whom I believed and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day” (v. 12)
He urged Timothy to keep the pattern of sacred teaching with faith and love in Christ Jesus and to hold tightly the Lord’s resources with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Phygelus and Hermogenes opposed Paul’s ministry but Onesiphorus was an encouragement to Paul. He refreshed Paul, searched for him and helped him in many ways.[:]
