[:en]JESUS GREATER THAN MOSES (vs. 1-6)
Moses was considered a great hero by the Jewish people. He had led their ancestors, the Israelites from Egyptian bondage to the border of the Promised Land. He also had written the first five books of the Old Testatment and he was the prophet through whom God had given the law. Therefore, Moses was the greatest prophet in the Scripture. But Jesus is worthy of greater honor as the central figure of faith than Moses because Moses was merely a human servant. Jesus is both human and divine. He has led us out of sin’s slavery.
WARNING AGAINST UNBELIEF (vs. 7-19)
The Holy Spirit warns us to hear His voice, and not to harden our hearts. Otherwise, we shall never enter God’s rest. God’s rest has many meanings in the Scripture: 1. Rest day after His creation (Gen. 2:2) 2. The Promise Land of Canaan (Deut. 12:8-12); 3. Peace with God (Mat. 11:28); 4. Our future eternal life with Christ (Heb. 4:8-11).
If we refuse to believe in Him, we are turning our hearts against God. If we persist our unbelief, God will eventually leave us alone in our sin. To prevent from having an unbelieving heart, stay in fellowship with other believers, and encourage one another daily with love and concern.
The reason why Israelites did not enter the Promised Land was because of their unbelief. They did not believe in God’s protection. They did not believe that God would help them conquer the giants in the land. (Num. 14-15). So God sent them into the wilderness to wander for 40 years. Lack of trust in God always prevents us from receiving his best.[:]
