[:en]THE HIGH PRIEST OF A NEW COVENANT (vs. 1-13)

Under the old Jewish system, priests were chosen only from the tribe of Levi.  But Jesus was from the tribe of Judah, who is now sitting at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven.  He served in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by God (vs. 1-2)  His perfect sacrifice ended all the need for further priests and sacrifices.

The old covenant was the covenant of law between Goid and Israel.  The new covenant is the covenant of grace which goes beyond Israel and Judah to include all the Gentile nations.  It is written in our hearts and mind.  Under God’s new covenant, God’s law is inside us.  It is no longer a set of rules and principles.  The Holy Spirit activates our conscience , influence our motives and desires and makes us want to obey God’s Word.[:]
