[:en]Titus, a Greek, was one of Paul’s most trusted friend and dependable co-worker. He traveled with Paul on some of his missionary journeys and was working as the leader of the church in Crete. Paul told Titus to teach people the truth of God and instructed him on how to be a good leader of the church.
TITUS TASK ON CRETE (vs. 5-16)
Paul directed Titus to appoint elders and overseers with the following qualifications: (vs. 6-9)
- He must be blameless – not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.
- Husband of one wife
- Whose children believe and are not open to charge of being wild and disobedient
- He must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined
- He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message and sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
There were many rebellious people, merely talkers and deceivers among the circumcision group who taught wrong docrtines and led others into error. Their teachings attacked the foundation of truth and integrity of Christian faith. False teachers focus on personal interest for dishonest gain. They compromise and diluted truth. They de-emphasize the divine nature of Christ and the inspiration of the Bible. They make decisions based on human judgment than on prayer and Biblical guidelines.
Those who really know God are pure. Christ is in control of their lives and their minds and conscience are not corrupted. Their lifestyle speaks for themselves of their values and character.
How is your living? Do people know about God and about your faith through your lifge?[:]
