John wrote this letter to the chosen lady and her children whom he love in the truth. He stressed that is is very important for Christians to love one another because it is the basic ingredient of true Christiainity. He emphasized Christians to walk in the truth and in love.
The false teachers do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh into the world. They taught that spirit was good and matter was evil. Therefore Jesus could not have been both God and man. They distorted the truth and undermined the foundation of Christian faith. They deceived people by opposing the truth. John instructed the believers not to show hospitality to false teachers. He was condemning the support of those who were opposing the teachings of God because a person who supports a false teachers will share in the teacher’s wicked work.
It is serious not to overlook false teachings because teaching heresy can seriously harm many believers for eternity.[:]
