[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 22[:]

[:en]Since the Messiah is to be a descendant of David, it is expected that many of the royal psalms would apply to Him.  In Psalms 22, David gave an account and amazing description of the suffering that the Messiah would endure hundred of years later.

Description of Christ’s crucifixion compared against the New Testament:

  1. His cry to the Father (v.1 -Mat. 27:46)
  2. There was darkness (v. 2 – Mat. 27:45)
  3. The insults and mocking of people (vs. 6-8, – Mat. 27:39-44)
  4. His pain and suffering (v.. 14 – Mark 14:65; John 15:18-20)
  5. His thirst (v. 15 – John 19:28)
  6. His pierced hands and feet (v. 18 –  Luike 24:39)
  7. Casting lots for his clothing (v. 18 – Mat. 27:”35, John 19:21-24)

David described himself as a worm and not a man.  He was scorned by men and despised by the people (v. 6).  When others despise and heap scorn upon us, they are treating us as lesser than human.  After much degradation, we, like David may begin to feel like worms.  When we feel the sting of rejection, we must keep in mind the hope and victory that God promises.

There is a scene of Devil’s zoo found in verses 12-18.  Bashan bulls encircled him (v. 12).  Roaring lion showing up (v. 13).  Dogs surrounded him (v. 16).  Jesus humbled himself like a worm to be chased by those animals.  Let us not act like a vicious animal but to be a gentle sheep that glorifies and honor the Good  Shepherd.

At the end, David went from prayer to praise.  When Christ was resurrected, He also praised God and declared His name.

Let us also worship and praise God.  Let us declare His name to my brothers (vs. 22).  Let us serve Him and withnes to others.[:]
