[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 3[:]

[:en]This is a Psalm of David when he fled his son, Absalom.  The word “selah” in Hebrew means interlude.  Its precise use is unknown but there are 3 suggestions:

  1. It was a musical direction of “forte” or “crescendo”
  2. It signalled lighting of hands or voice in worship or the priest to give a benediction.
  3. It was a phrase like “Amen” meaning “|So Be It” or “Hallelujah” meaning “Praise the Lord”.

The first paragraph stated David’s situation when the foes were rising up against him and no one can deliver him.  The second paragraph witnessed David’s confidence in God.  He knew God’s shield was around him, God’s glory bestowed upon his head, and God’s responded him in His Holy mountain. The third paragraph confirmed David’s courage because the Lord has sustained him.  He was able to lie down and sleep despite of the tens of thousand that had drawn up against him on every side.  He experienced God’s peace within him.  The fourth paragraph called for God to act and administer justice against his persecutors.  In the last paragraph, David thanked the Lord for his deliverance.

Have you been unable to sleep?  Have you experienced fear or felt being abandoned?  Then seek God to have peace.  Trust God to counter fear.  Depend on God’s mercry and faithfulness.  He will protect you in your darkest hour and respond to you when you pray to Him.  Thank Him for His providence.  Praise Him for His deliverance.  Let God give you peace in your hear for He is in control of everything.
