[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 39[:]

[:en]David had sinned and he was rebuked by god.  Instead of giving excuses or arguing with god, he was silent and still saying nothing.  He meditated and learned 4 lessons:

  1.  He learned the brevity of life – “I don’t know how many days I’ll live.  I know how fleeting is my life.  My days are a mere handbreath; Each man’s life is but a breath (vs. 4-54)
  2. He learned the meaningless of wealth – “Man is a meere phantom as he goes to and fro.  He bustles abut, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it. (v. 6). You consume their wealth like a moth. (v. 11)
  3. He learned to hope in God – “But now Lord, what do I look for?  My hope is in you” (v. 7)  What is hope in biblical terminology?  It means confidence in the future that comes from faith in God.  With the living hope, we have joy, encouragement and comfort today.  Trust in God to give you hope.
  4. He learned that God will rebuke and discipline men for their sin -Remove your scorge from me; I am overcome by the blow of your hand.  (vb. 10-11)

Life is short.  Wealth is meaningless without God.  Refrain from sinning.  Hope in  the Lord.[:]
