[:en]EXPECT AND EXTEND MERCY

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector spoke of two men who went up to the temple to pray.  The Pharisee was comparing himself to the tax collector and boasting about himself and of what he did.  But the tax collector stood at a distance, beat his breast and said: “God, have mercy on men, a sinner”.  (Luke 18:13).  Among the two, It was the  tax collector whom Jesus justified.

Like the tax collector, we are all sinners with a desperate need for God’s grace.  We do not have the right to judge or change others.  Instead, we have to look to Jesus to experience the Lord’s loving compassion and forgiveness.  When we realize the depth of our need for mercy, we can more readily offer mercy to others. -(Xochitl Dixon)
