[:en]Asaph the Psalmist had sorrowful days of trouble and sleepless nights of despair. He wrestled with himself and with God because he could not understand why the Lord did not keep His promise and deliver His people from bondage.
What did Asaph do?
- He talk to God (vs. 1-5) – He cried out to God for help. When he talked to the Lord, he found reasurrance as he remembered how the Lord had cared for him in the past.
- He talked to himself (v. 6) – “I remembered my songs in the night. My heart mused and my spirit inquired” As he meditated within his heart, he was examining himself about his life and walk. Then his sadness was replaced by a song in the night.
Here are the series of questions he asked: (vs. 7-9)
- Will the Lord reject forever?
- Will He never show his favor again?
- Has His unfailing love vanished forever?
- Has His promised failed for all time?
- Has God forgotten to be merciful?
- Has He, in His anger withheld His compassion?
Then he discovered in verse 11: “I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.”
Asaph came to two wonderful conclusion at the close of the experience with the Lord. “Your ways O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles. You display your power among the people. With your mighty arms, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. (vs. 13-15). Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron (vs. 19-20)
Reflection:
Do you have sorrows, despair and sleepless nights? Call God for assitance, healing and reassurance. Examine your Christian life and remember His past miracles in your life. Be honest with the Lord. Don’t be afraid to pour out your questions. Tell him how you feel and think. If God did not yet answer you, remember this: that we live on promises and not on explanations. We walk by faith and not by sight. Trust Him. His grace will see you through. Do not forget to follow God’s way. God’s way is a holy way. His way is in the sanctuary, sanctified and holy. His way is the best way. To walk in His way, you have to read the Holy Word.
God’s way is a hidden way. It is in the sea which you cannot see. But He will open up the sea and help you walk on the water. God’s way is a holy way. So obey Him. His way is a hidden way, so trust Him.[:]
