[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 82[:]

[:en]This Psalm tells us that God is part of the judicial system.  “God presides in the great assembly.  He gives judgment among the gods” (v. 1)

The “gods” means the judges.  God was admonishing the judges.  He was questioning “how long will they defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked (v. 2)

He told them to do the following:  (vs. 3-4)

  1. Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless.
  2. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed
  3. Rescue the weak and needy
  4. Deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

Now God was judging the judges when he said:  “They know nothing.  They understand nothing.  They walkjabout in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.  These judges will die and fall like every other ruler” (v. 7)

The Psalmist believed that God will one day judge the earth.  When Jesus comes, everything will be under His control.  He shall reign the world with justice.  God will make everything right for all the nations are His inheritance.[:]
