[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 84[:]

[:en]It is the custom of the Jews to go to Jerusalem 3 times each year to celebrate Passover, Pentecost and the Feast of Tabernacles.  The author of this Psalm was unable to join the pilgrimage even he wanted to go there.  So he wrote this Psalm  revealing his outlook on the blessings we often neglect.

1.  The Beauty of God’s Dwelling Place

Many took  for granted the privilege of dwelling in the courts of the Lord.  For him, God’s altar was like a home and nest to the sparrow.  When life disappoints us, we can always worship Him in any place.

2.  The Blessing of God’s Strength

When the Jews made their pilgrimage, they would pass through the Valley of Baca.  The name “Baca” means weeping.  In verse 6 “As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs”.  They got strength from the Lord as they went down to celebrate the feast.

3.   The Best of dependence in God

The author prayed to God to listen and look upon him with favor.  He would rather be a doorkeeper in God’s house than living in the tents of the wicked.  For the Lord God was his sun and shield who bestowed favor and honor.  He ended with “Blessed is the man who trust in you” (v. 12)

Reflection:

  1.  Do you have the desire to worship God in your heart?  Are you thankful for having the privilege to fellowship with Him?
  2. As you travelled through life’s journey, are you getting strength from the Lord to walk and to run?  Are you walking uprightly?
  3. Do you trust God for His provision and protection?  God’s pilgrims go from strength to strength and from faith to faith. (Rom. 1:17).  As you trust God, He gives grace and glory.  But in between the journey, you need to trust Him before entering into the glory of the Lord.
