[:en]Ethan wrote this Psalm with “Faithfulness” as the key word. It was mentioned 7 times (vs. 1, 2, 5, 8, 14, 33, 49). Faithfulness was seen from generation to generation (v. 1), among His people (vs. 5-7), in creation (vs. 11-13), among the nations (vs. 14-18) and to David and his family (vs. 19-37). But Ethan was thinking that God was not faithful to His people because the events he saw denied the faithfulness of the covenant.
Is God really Faithful?
- God is faithful to His Word – Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away” (Mat. 24:354)
- God is faithful to chasten – He will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging” (v. 32)
- God is faithful to forgive – “I will not take my love from him nor will I ever betray my faithfulness (v. 33)
What kind of people we ought to be? As God’s people, we must walk in the light (v. 15) and rejoice in His name (v. 16).
Do not question God’s faithfulness. Never judge God’s faithfulness on the basis of what you see or how you feel. God’s promises do not fail (2 Cor. 1:18-20) for His love stands firm forever and His faithfulnes is established in heaven eternally.
The hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness” (ByThomas O. Chisholm)
- Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father. There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be.
- Summer and winter and spring time and harvest. Sun, moon and stars in their courses above. Join with all nature in manifold witness, To Thy great faithfulnes, mercy and love.
- Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth. Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow; Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.
Chorus: Great is Thy faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness. Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulnes, Lord unto me.[:]
