[:en]According to the Psalmist, the safest place in the world is to rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (v. 1). What does it means to be under the feathers of His wings? The Psalmist was referring to the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle and the temple. In the Holy of Holies, two cherubims were over the mercy seat and their wings touched each other. “Under His wings” means at the mercy seat where the blood was sprinkled, there in the presence of the glory of God. Therefore, the safest place in the world is to dwell in the Holy place, to live in the Holy of Holies.
There is an open invitation for us to come right into the presence of God and dwell in the secret place under His wings at the mercy seat. The mercy seat is where God meets us and where His glory is revealed. It is where God gives us His guidance and shows us His will.
How safe is it to be under His wings?
- No fear from the terrors of the night (v. 5a)
- No fear from the arrows that flies by day (vs. 5b)
- No fear from the pestilence taht stalks in the darkness (v. 6a)
- No fear from the plagues that destroys at midday (vs. 6b)
- No harm will befall you (v. 10a)
- No disasters will come near your tent (v. 10b)
- His angels will guard you and lift you up so that you will not strike a foot against a stone (v. 11)
- The lion and cobra will be trampled (v. 13)
- He will rescue and protect you (v. 14)
- He will answer you and be with you in trouble (v. 15a)
- He will deliver you and honor you (v. 15nb)
- He will show you salvation and satisfy you with long life (v. 16)
God promises us security if we are in the will of God. Our security and responsibility must go together in order to lead us to victory.
God’s Promises:
- He will satisfy us in the morning with His unfailing love (v. 14)
- He will make us glad (v. 15)
- He will show His deeds to us and His splendor to our children (v. 16)
- He will establish the work of our hands (v. 17)
