Ant-Man
Scott Lang is an ex-convict who has lapsed back to robbing stuff. When he broke into the house of Hank Pym and stole a suit that can shrink its wearer, Pym recruited Lang to steal a weapon being developed by Darren Cross, his protégé who had forced Pym out of his own company.
Scott is praised for his quick thinking and ability to break into complex places, and he is trained to fight in order to be able to overpower Cross. He is given Pym particles to be able to shrink or grow at will. He is also given an EMP communication device to collaborate with ants.
One important thing I find interesting during his training period is his ability to shrink and interact with the different kinds of ants and feel like them. I can strongly compare this with Jesus’ coming down to Earth to become one of us, feeling and understanding the world from our human perspective. Like ants, we might be little insignificant objects but God looks after us all the time.
Doctor Strange
Dr. Stephen Strange is an accomplished surgeon. After a terrible car accident mangled his hands, he falls into despair when he lost his job and after undergoing seven failed surgeries to heal his hands. He then tried to find ways to seek healing. It led him to find a mentor who is willing to teach him different ways to view his lamentable state.
From a highly respected professional, Doctor Strange began to let down his pride as he realized that he is just a tiny particle in the vast universe and that there are a million dimensional realms to be discovered.
Doctor Strange’s experience taught me that sometimes when we accomplished something great, we might think that we can do anything and we need nothing else. But we must learn to have a heart of humility and always strive to learn new things.
Okoye
As the Leader of the Dora Milaje, a border tribe that served as the royal guards of Wakanda, Okoye has great authority. Instead of using it to her advantage, she uses it to protect her King T’Challa and ensure his safety. She is ready to stay and protect her King, even from her own husband, and is always on the lookout for danger, thanks to her proficiency with her spear.
We must strive to be like Okoye: dependable, careful and protective. It is important that we display these characteristics not only to ourselves but also to our friends and family. We must learn to love the people whom God allows us to live with in this life, no matter how hard it is. We must show God’s love to everyone.
Captain Marvel
It was definitely a confusing accident that made Air Force pilot Carol Danvers absorb all energy from the blown up plane. All memories of her past was erased, and she was brought to Planet Kree, by Yon-Rogg, a Kree soldier. There, she was trained to control her emotions to avoid any unnecessary explosions she can fire at will. During one of their trainings, she suddenly finds herself back to Earth and meets with Nick Fury. She also met her co-pilot, Maria, who helped her regain her memories. She remembers failing many times in her past life, but she also recalls that after every fall, she rose back.
What struck me was the double life she lived. She, like us, thinks at first that she is in the right side with Yon-Rogg. But after an encounter with the Skrulls or shapeshifting creatures, she begins to doubt her mentor. Often times, worldly things such as the internet is helping us achieve more but actually, it captures our attention and drifts us away from God. As good as they may be, they help us lose our focus in becoming the best that we can be, and most significantly, stop us from realizing what we are capable of. Captain Marvel taught me to never give in to the temptations that come our way but instead, rise above the trials that we face.
