David was just a shepherd boy. But he had fought and killed a lion and a bear to save the sheep. When Israel was challenged to send someone to fight Goliath, he bravely volunteered to fight with him. King Saul was reluctant to send him but David said: “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion…. and the bear will resue me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Sam. 17:37)
While he was a shepherd, he did not earn much respect. But it prepared him to fight Goliath and eventually became Israel’s greatest king. God may also let us experience difficult circumstances to prepare us for something greater in the future. – (Julie Schwab, Guest Writer)[:]
