[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 135[:]

[:en]The Psalmist started singing praise to the Lord five times (vs. 1-3) and ended praising the Lord  6 times (vs. 19-21).

Who are to praise the Lord?

  1. Servant of the Lord
  2. Minister of the Lord
  3. House of Israel
  4. House of Aaron
  5. House of Levi
  6. All who fear Him

Why praise th Lord?

  1. For His goodness – “Praise the Lord for the Lord is good” (v. 3)
  2. For His grace – “The Lord has chosen Jacob to be His own, Israel to be His treasured promise” (v. 4)
  3. For His greatness – “Our Lord is greater than all gods” (v. 5)
  4. For His sovereignty – “The Lord does whatever pleases Him” (v. 6)
  5. For His Government – “The Lord makes clouds rises rise from the ends of the earth; He sends lighting with the rain and brings out the wind from His storehouses” (v. 7)
  6. For His miracle – “He struck down the firstborn of Egypt, the firstborn of men and animals and send His signs and wonders in their midst” (v.8)
  7. For His power – “He struck down many nations and killed mighty kings” )v. 10)
  8. For His provision – “He gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to His people Israel” (v. 12)
  9. For His promise – “For the Lord will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants” (v. 14)

The Psalmist described the idols of the nations as follows”  (vs. 15-17)

  1. They are silver and gold made by the hands of men
  2. They have mouth but cannot speak
  3. They have eyes, but they cannot see
  4. They have ears, but cannot hear
  5. There is no breath in their mouths

“Those who made them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them” (v. 18)

People today are worshiping work of their own hands.   Wealth, possessions, prestige, positions have become their idols.  And the saddest thing is that they become like the god they worship.

May we learn to praise the Lord and thank Him for who He is and what He does for us.[:]
