[:en]David was praying to God. He set himself before Him like incense, lifting his hands like the evening sacrifice. In the Jewish temple, the priest would go to the altar of incense in the Holy place to offer a special sacrifice. The smoke of the incense would rose up from the altar going and reaching up to God. The incense at the altar was well prepared and carefully mixed. We also should mix our prayer with adoration, confession, petition, submission and thanksgiving to Him. Let the Holy Spirit ignite the fire in the altar of our prayer.
David asked God to take care the following:
- My mouth and lips – to set a guard (v. 3)
- My heart – not to be drawn to what is evil (v. 4)
- My head – to be stricken with kindness and be rebuked with oil by a righteous man (v. 5)
- My eyes – to fix on You and take refuge in you (v. 8)
David gave every part of his being to the Lord as evening sacrifice. This is the highest and holist calling of worship.
Let us offer our whole self to God and make our prayers like fragrant incense that brings joy to the heart of God.[:]
