After having been in the harvest fields for over forty years and being a child of God for sixty-three years, I learn one important lesson about life with Christ:
“Serve the Lord with gladness. Obedience keeps one on track. Service and obedience are partners.”
We can take a glimpse of how our Lord Jesus Christ Himself rejoiced in serving the Father before the world began. This is seen in Proverbs 8:30, “Then I was beside Him, like a master workman, and I was daily His delight, rejoicing before him always.” (ESV)
For two thousand years, Christians worldwide are looking forward to the imminent return of Jesus Christ to rule the whole world. The world has been warned in the following passage in the first century or even earlier.
As Psalm 2:10-12 says, “Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.”
The loving God has been warning His people before the judgment comes. This manifests one beautiful character of our God, His being merciful and slow to anger. But be warned, God’s word shall not return void. Bearing this truth in mind, we can trust Him for making our life fruitful. This has also led me to my ministry with SunCell.
How then did SunCell start?
Over twenty-five years ago, some eager-faced young students with hungry stomachs would come up to Tenielyn’s and Ivy’s apartment which was only one block away from the University of San Carlos in downtown Cebu. Dinner would be served, followed by a Bible Study. This happened every Saturday, hence the name “Saturday Cell Group.” A few sessions were also initially held at Cebu Gospel Church.
The Lord had since then laid a burden on my heart. This idea was impressed upon me. Jesus said, “I came to seek and to save those which are lost. Have you tried to look for them? Have you not taught on Sundays? I have not seen them in church.”
In response, I prayed to the Lord for coworkers. They responded promptly. They are Sis. Rosa Ngo, Sis. Paz Ngo, and Ptr. Rosalinda Ng. I thank God for this precious networking. Some accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Some were baptized. Truly, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents! As we continue moving about looking for the lost ones, the burden on my heart was lifted away. What’s left there was joy from above.
To give more access to the students, the Bible Study was moved to Sunday. Hence, the name “Sunday Cell Group” or in short “SunCell.” For one summer, SunCell used the premises of Philippine Christian Gospel School (PCGS). Now, SunCell feels very much at home at Cebu Gospel Church.
Our motto is: “Being a disciple of Christ, disciple others.” The door of SunCell is open to everyone. We are equipped to serve our glorious God together. Praise the Lord!!!
