Thoughts from Proverbs 30

[:en]SAYINGS OF AGUR

2 Things he asked of God:

“Keep falsehood and lies far from me.  Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.  Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say: ‘Who is the Lord?’ or I may become poor and steal and so dishonor the name of my God” (vs. 8-9)

Different kinds of people: (vs. 11-14)

  1.  Those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers
  2.  Those who are pure in their own eyes and yet are not cleansed o their filth
  3.  Those whose eyes are ever so haughty, whose glances are so disdainful
  4.  Those whoe teeth are swords and whose jaws are set with knives to devour the poor from the eath, the needy from among mankind

3 Things that are never satisfied :  The grave, the barren womb and the land (v. 16)

4 Things that cannot be understood: (v. 19)

  1.  The way of an eagle in the sky,
  2.  The way of a snake on a rock,
  3.  The way of a ship on the high seas
  4.  The way of a man with a maiden

Some things that will cause trouble: (vs. 21-23)

  1.  A servant who becomes king
  2.  A fool who is full of food
  3.  A marriage without love
  4.  A maidservant who displaces her mistress

4 Things on earth that are small but wise: (vs. 24-28)

  1.  Ants with little strength yet they store up their food in summer
  2.  Coneys with little power yet they make their home in the crags
  3.  Locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks
  4.  A lizard can be caught with the hands, yet it is found in kings’ palaces

4 Things that move with stately bearing:  a lion, a strutting rooster and a he=goat (vs. 29-31)

Other Advices:

“Every wor  of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him (v. 5)

“The eye that mocks a father and scorns obedience to a mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, and will be eaten by the vultures” (v. 17)

“This is the way of an adulteress; she eats and wipes her mouth and says, “I’ve done nothing wrong” (v. 20)

“Do not exalt yourself; do not plan evil” (v. 32)

“Stirring up anger produces strife” (v. 33)
