[:en]JUDGMENT ON JERUSALEM AND JUDAH

Jerusalem and Judah trusted their material wealth, military might and political power.  So God would replace their proud leaders with boys and children to govern them.  The young rose up against the old, the base against the honorable.  (vs. 4-5).  Nobody wants to be a leader nor take charge of the ruins. (vs. 6-7)

Jerusalem and Judah defied the Lord with their sins like Sodom.  Disaster was coming upon the wicked. (vs. 8-11).  Youth oppressed the people and women ruled over them (v. 12).  The Lord rose and entered into judgment against the elders and leaders of His people.  They had raided the vineyard and plundered from the poor.  Women of the land were haughty.  They were obessed with fashion – ornaments, gangles, headbands, necklaces, earnings bracelets, veils, headdresses and ankle chains and shahes, perfume bottles and charms, signet rings and nose rings, fine robes and capes and cloaks, purses and mirrors, linen gardments, tiaras and shawls. (vs. 16-23)

The day would come when their artifical glamour would be gone.  Instead of fragrance, there will be a stench; instead of a sash, a rope; instead of well-dressed hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing. sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding.  Many men would die in the coming war and the women would become widows. (vs. 24-26)[:]
