[:en]A PROPHESY ABOUT EGYPT

Isaiah warned Israel not to get help from Egypt because the Egyptians are fighting against each other (vs. 1-2).  They sought counsel from the devil and were heading for bondage themselves (vs. 3-4).  Their country was about to fall – dried up rivers, stink canal, withered plants, dying fish, fallen trade, failing economy (vs. 5-10).  Egypt was led astray by deceiving fools resulting in humiliating defeat (vs. 12-15).

But in the future, the Lord will establish His Kingdom to both the Jews and the Egyptians.  The situation will be reversed with Egypt fleeing to Israel for help (vs. 16-17).  And the Egyptians will worship the God of Israel (vs. 18-21).  Both nations will be at peace and visit one another on God’s highway.

SIGNIFICANCE OF EGYPT IN ISRAEL’S HISTORY

When there was a famine in Canaan, Abraham went to Egypt and he almost lost his wife (Gen. 12:10-13:4).   During exodus, when they had no water to drink, they wanted to go back to Egypt (Exo. 16:3).  And while wandering in the wilderness, they had no meat, fish, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic – they wanted to go back to Egypt (Num. 11:4-6)  The people rebelled against Moses and even preferred to go back and die in Egypt (Num. 14:2-4)

These events taught us not to go back in unbelief but to go forward in faith (Heb. 3:7-19. 6:1)[:]
