[:en]A PROPHESY AGAINST EGYPT AND CUSH

Two object lessons had been recorded to convince the people not to form unholy alliances.

First, the Philistines depended on Egypt and Ethiopia to help them but their help failed.  So why should the Jewish people trust Egypt and Ethiopia?

Second, prophet Isaiah was personified as being a prisoner of war.  He had gone stripped and barefoot for 3 years.  Similarly, the King of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old with buttocks bared – to Egypt’s shame.   Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be afraid and put to shame (vs. 3-5).   God’s people did not take it to heart and eventually, they were led off to Babylon.[:]
