[:en]SCRIPTURE: PHILIPPINAS 3
“I consider everything a loos compared to the surpasing greatness of knowing Christi Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things, I consider them rubbish that I may gain Christ” ({Philippians 3:8)
“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14)
NO CONFIDENCE IN THE FLESH (vs. 1-11)
Paul proved that no matter how impressive our achievements are, we cannot earn our salvation without Christ. Paul’s credentials included his upbringing, nationality, family background, inheritance, orthodoxy, activity and morality. But his conversion was based on God’s grace not on what he had done. Paul considered all his accomplishments “worthless” compared to the greatnes of knowing Christ. He gave up his family, friendship and freedom to know Christ and His resurrection power.
3 THINGS THAT PAUL DID: (vs. 13-14)
- Forgetting what is behind
- Straining toward what is ahead
- Press on toward the goal to win the prize
Paul asked the Philippians to live out the instruction that they have learned and pursue Christlikeness through His Word. Those who belong to Christ are assured of heavenly citizenship. So, those who struggled with pain, physical limitation or disabilities could have wonderful hope in the resurrection. For our lowly bodies will be transformed into glorious bodies!
LESSON:
Do not allow your achievements, reputation or credentials hinder your relationship with Christ. Give up everything and make Christ your first priority in life. Depend on His resureciton power to fight against your sinful nature. Lay aside everything harmful that may hinder you from being an effective Christian. Let go of the past and look forward to the future with hope in Christ. Grow in the knowledge of God and move on to a life of faith and obedience.
