[:en]SCRIPTURE:  PHILEMON

“So, if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me.  If he has done you any wrong, or owes you anything, charge it to me” (Philemon vs. 17-18)

Philemon became a Christian through Paul’s ministry.  He was a leader of the church at Colosse.  He had a slave named Onesimus, who stole money from him and fled to Rome.  Paul met him and led him to Christ.

Paul started his letter with greetings to his dear friend Philemon, to sister Apphia and to fellow soldier Archippus.  He expressed appreciation for Philemon’s love and faith, which had been a blessing to the hearts of the saints.  Paul sent Onesimus back to Philemon with this letter appealing him to forgive Onesimus and receive him as a brother in Christ instead of a runaway slave.  He assured Philemon that he will pay back everything that Onesimus owed.  He was confident that Philemon would go “the extra mile” and do more than he had requested.  He also requested for a place to stay when he would be released from prison.

LESSON:

Let us learn to appreciate Christians who have been sharing their faith and doing good works.  Let us try our best to forgive those who have done us wrong and receive them as brothers and sisters in Christ.  Let us also be a peacemaker by reconciling misunderstandings between brethren.  Let us show hospitality to those who labored for Christ.[:]
