[:en]SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 1
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful Word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven”(Hebrews 1:3)
The author of Hebrews in unknown although many had concluded that it was Paul. This letter was written to the Jewish believers who were about to abandon their Christian faith and return to the Jewish faith because of persecution. The emphasis of Hebrews is Faith. We are saved by faith, so that we must live by faith.
The Superiority of Christ:
- Christ is better than the Prophets (vs. 1-3) – The prophets were called by God to speak His Word. But God appointed His Son to be heir of all. “He is the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful Word” (v. 1) He had provided purification for sins and completed His work on earth. Now, He is sitteth at the right hand of God as God’s King-Priest in heaven.
- Christ is better than the Angels (vs. 4-14) a) – Jesus is the Son of God and Heir of all things. b) – Angels have to worship Him. c) – His throne will last forever. d) – God set Him above everything by anointing Him with the oil of joy. (e) – He laid the foundation of the earth and heavens are the work of hands. (f) – He is eternal and will remain the same forever.
LESSON:
Jesus had “purged” our sins by His death on the cross. He is the final and full revelation from God, who is now with His Father in glory.
Angels were created to serve God’s people, to give special care to children and intervene in the lives of God’s servants. They are ministering spirits who will escort believers to glory and accompany Christ when He returns. We must not worship angels nor pray to them. They are created beings sent by God to us when we need the most.
